How We Plant a Tree the Right Way

Dig Wide, Not Deep

The hole is 2 to 3 times wider than the root ball, so roots can spread.

At or slightly above ground level. Planting too deep is a top reason young trees fail.

Water deeply, then add a mulch ring kept a few inches off the trunk.

Flower & Succulent Planting

Add color and texture with seasonal flowers, shrubs and drought-tolerant succulents. We help you choose plants that look great and handle the Southern California climate.

We group plants by sun and water needs, space them for their mature size, and top the beds with mulch or decorative rock for a clean, finished look.

Drought-Tolerant Succulents

Succulents like echeveria, agave and aloe bring year-round color and texture while using a fraction of the water a lawn needs. Paired with boulders and decorative gravel, they create a modern, low-maintenance yard that stands up to Southern California heat.

Mulching, Mowing & Yard Upkeep

A fresh layer of mulch holds moisture, blocks weeds, keeps soil cooler and feeds the soil as it breaks down. We spread it 2 to 4 inches deep and never pile it against the trunk ("mulch volcanoes" invite rot and pests).

Clean, even mowing keeps your yard looking cared for. We mow high, never cut more than one third of the blade, and keep mulch rings so mowers and trimmers don't damage bark. Want free wood chips for your own projects? Ask about free wood chip mulch.

"Peterson's trimmed all the trees on our large property and did a beautiful job. Clean-up was excellent as well... We felt it was worth the price for their expertise in tree care!"

"The crew did a great job. They even added the last of the fallen leaves to my compost pile!... the neighbors in the back said they did a great job over there, cleaning up the branches that fell over the fence."
